A Brief History of Forest River® RVs

Forest River is one of the most popular American manufacturers of recreational vehicles, including pop-up campers, travel trailers, and fifth wheels. It’s not hard to see why their RVs are so popular, considering how much effort the company puts into their construction and manufacturing processes. Company History

In 1996, Peter Liegl founded Forest River in Elkhart, Indiana, by using some other assets he had from Cobra Industries. His company initially focused on producing a lineup of travel trailers, pop-up campers, and fifth wheels, along with park models as a more permanent option. Soon, the business expanded into the production of motorhomes as well to meet customer demand. Forest River also produces a line of pontoons for water recreation.

Forest River began to purchase other businesses as their success continued, including Starcraft Bus and US Cargo. In 2005, Warren Buffet’s holding company, Berkshire Hathaway, purchased Forest River to allow it to continue to grow.
